Our journey began in 1986 as a small company selling blinds to homeowners. In fact the company was so small the warehouse and showroom fit into the trunk of our owner's car.

In 1993 owner George Weiss decided to draw on his expertise in the areas of drafting and design and we began manufacturing our own blinds, shades and draperies as well as other specialty items for the commercial and residential sectors.

Over the next several years George Michaels Industries operated out of the basement of George's home, eventually expanding to the point where we were able to move into a 2000 sqft warehouse on Stillwater Road in Mahopac.

In 1998 we changed our name to GMI and incorporated.

Our business continues to grow, mostly by word of mouth and we've recently added Columbia University and New York Presbyterian Hospital to our list of reoccurring, satisfied customers.

In 2009 we relocated to a new 10,000 sqft facility in Cold Spring to better serve our clients.
